Flyglobespan launches second Egypt route

Scottish budget airline Flyglobespan has started selling tickets for its new winter routes, opting to lure customers to sunny Mediterranean locations from Glasgow and Edinburgh.

One of two Egypt routes for the winter will be a new link between Glasgow and Hurghada, a route for which the airline hopes to attract "families, couples and dive enthusiasts", while flights from Edinburgh to the Portuguese islands of Madeira are also going on the market.

Flyglobespan's existing Egyptian route to Sharm El Sheikh was launched last year – and after proving popular has now been put on sale for winter 2008.

While operating principally out of Scotland, Flyglobespan's operations at Durham Airport – from where it flies to Alicante, Malaga, Palma, Lanzarote and Tenerife – were this week cited as one of the reasons behind the north-eastern hub's increased passenger numbers over the last 12 months.

Flyglobespan chairman Tom Dalrymple said: "We are delighted to be launching another direct flight from Scotland to Egypt. The success of the Sharm el Sheikh, which began as a winter destination only but proved so popular that it soon became one of our year-round destinations, was definitely a contributing factor in this decision to launch the Glasgow Hurghada flight."
