Portuguese flag carrier TAP has announced plans to launch twice-weekly flights to Bissau in west Africa.

The intercontinental route takes off early next month from the carrier's base in Lisbon and will join the current weekly flight to Portuguese speaking Guinea-Bissau.

TAP said that it hopes to increase the new route to fly three times a week from July.

Earlier this month the airline announced two new flights to Zagreb in Croatia from the Portuguese capital.

The seasonal service will run between July and September and replace the current Friday flight from Lisbon to Zagreb via Bologna.

During these summer months a separate flight from Portugal to Bologna will serve passengers.

TAP also confirmed additional flights to Prague and Budapest from Lisbon starting in September.
