UK-based
low cost carrier easyJet has been named the best budget airline.
The carrier picked up the Best
Low Cost/No Frills Airline title at the recent OAG Airline Industry Awards in London.
Competition in the category came from fellow European operator of
cheap flights, Ryanair, as well as US airlines JetBlue and Southwest and Australia's Jetstar Airways.
Singapore Airlines was named OAG Airline of the Year 2008 for the sixth time. Singapore Changi Airport came first in the airport category, beating off rivals Amsterdam Schipol, Dubai International, Hong Kong International, JFK in New York and San Francisco International.
Alan Glass, chief executive of OAG, said: "This is a very special night for Singapore.
"The level of service and innovation that Singapore Airlines and Singapore Changi have consistently offered the travelling public is reflected by the way OAG subscribers, the world's frequent fliers, have voted."
Other winners included
British Airways which took the crown for Best Transatlantic Airline and Best Business Class Airline.
