Luton Airport has launched a new multi-lingual communications system for flight departures.

The London airport's new Aviavox system will allow flight departure information to be provided in a total of nine different languages.

It is also capable of broadcasting information about particular routes and flights across different parts of the airport.

Airport officials have found the new system particularly useful for delivering security messages at speed and it has been essential during peak travel times.

Luton Airport could soon get even busier, after the government gave conditional approval to plans for a new guided bus route to Houghton Regis.

The new £86 million project will see buses travelling along concrete runners for parts of their journey in a bid to ease congestion and speed up trips.

However, work on the proposed project is not expected to get underway until early 2009.
