Airline & Airport Updates

Authorities at Lyon Saint Exupery Airport in France are set to expand the terminal in response to growing popularity of flights to the region.

Plans will also see the airport petitioning for an increase in the frequency of flights out of the airport to cope with demand.

The new management team had originally planned to build an additional two runways at the airport, but has since put proposals on hold.

However, the airport is still keen to accommodate new passengers, according to CEO Philippe Bernand.

He told AINonline: "We are aiming at 10 million passengers in 2012."

Low fare flights currently account for six per cent of the total traffic arriving at the airport, helping France's second-city hub to log 7.32 million passengers last year.

easyJet is one of the airlines offering cheap flights to Lyon, which is popular as a ski destination, according to the carrier.
