A new carbon offsetting scheme has been launched for Flexjet customer flights.

Flexjet owners will now be able to offset their emissions each time they fly following a new agreement with carbon offset provider Climate Care.

The business jet membership to the program will be voluntary and will pay a fee charged for each hour of flights to fund projects to reduce emissions comparable to those created.

Fred Reid, president of Bombardier Flexjet, said: "Until technological advances produce truly low emissions aircraft, the best opportunity to minimise climate impact is to balance flight emissions with projects and technologies that reduce environmental impact around the world.

"We selected Climate Care as a partner after extensive research concluded that the company offers the highest standards for choosing, measuring and reporting on its programs to balance carbon emissions."

This announcement follows a number of high profile aviation businesses, including Boeing, Virgin Atlantic and Air France, joining the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Users Group, advised by the World Wildlife Fund.
